This month I read with interest an article in Human Resources magazine, "Buoyant HR Job Market Ahead". This is indeed our recent experience with a significant upsurge in requests for both contractors and permanent candidates in areas such as Organisational Development, Shared Services, Learning & Development, Change Management and Project Managers.  In high demand are consultants and HR specialists with background in ERP implementations and change management.
In Victoria in particular, aCE talentNET has assisted clients identify consultants and contractors to support large scale technology implementations. There is indeed a growing shortage of candidates with these skill sets, and HR professionals immigrating to Australia with skills and experience in HR specialty areas such as organisational development, HR Shared Services, and ERP driven HR/L&D projects are rarely without contracts or permanent roles for long.
For more good news for HR professionals click here to read the full article.

We are also pleased to see our Invitation to attend the Mediation Certification Workshop generate some interest amongst HR and L&D professionals, hence our WebPoll question this month. Please spend 20 seconds of your time giving us your thoughts on this month's question.

Finally, as promised we are pleased to announce that following the very successful Emotional Intelligence breakfast seminar held late 2006, we have partnered again with Dr Martyn Newman to bring our valued clients and Talent Network the opportunity to listen to Dr Martyn Newman speak about the essential strategies for building emotional intelligence and leadership success.  So unlock your potential and see below for all the details and how to register!  Be in quick numbers are limited!

Happy Consulting.

All of the following articles, and many many more, are always available to you on the
aCE talentNET blog

  • Are We In This Together? The Preconditions For Strategy.
David Maister's latest article argues that many firms are incapable of pulling off any strategy because their members have not yet decided if they wish to enter into a joint, collaborative activity-building for the future. In many organizations, there are Mountain Lions who want to be independent and bet on their ability to "kill meat today." There are members of the Wolf Pack, who are prepared to collaborate, but only if it all pays off quickly. There are Beavers, who will patiently build for the future, but only for their own family. And there are a (small) group of Humans eager to collaborate in building for the future.  ....  Which mix do you have?
  • Why Corporate “Goodness” is Not Enough: Rethinking Corporate
Christine Arena argues that the widely-held notion that corporate responsibility is about “doing good” marginalizes an important part of doing business in the 21st century. Instead, it is about innovation, making real change as the world changes. She also lets us in on which extraordinary companies driven by purposeful ideas have actually succeeded.

  • The Mediation Explosion – new opportunities? (.pdf 72kb)
Tim Connellan from Pacific Mediation explains how many major corporates and government departments are devoting more and more resources to ensuring the workplace is as harmonious an environment as possible.
This can be in the form of up skilling employees with in-house training or by engaging external consultants.
